5 Amazing Experiences in Margaret River
Margaret River is renowned for its breath-taking beaches, award winning wines, boutique breweries, magnificent caves, gourmet cuisine, unique artisans, and vibrant events guide but with so much to see and do its hard to know where to start. Owner and operator of Margaret River Holiday Houses, Miriam Avery, has lived and worked in the region since the late 90’s and is delighted to share with you her special guide to some of the best experiences that Margaret River has to offer.
A small family run winery that will blow your socks off! From the moment you drive onto the property just south of Redgate Rd, you will be impressed with the idyllic setting of this small cellar door. It is $10 to do a tasting (taken off the bill when you purchase) but, trust me, once you have tasted these wines you will become an instant lover of MR Barval. Their chardonnay is like mother’s milk and you simply cannot leave the region without enjoying a glass of it on their lawn overlooking the picturesque dam. You can even ask to be taken into the winery for a “behind the scenes’ tour. Open daily from 11am November to July. Visit Site.
“The tour for people who don’t do tours!”. If you want to experience Margaret River like a local, then look no further than Sean Blocksidge and his never-ending plethora of funny stories and knowledge of the area. If you are short on time in Margaret River and want to pack as much fun into a day as possible then I recommend Sean’s Margaret River Discovery Tour which includes everything from a canoe along the river, a private lunch at one of Margaret River’s most exclusive wineries, a 4WD adventure and even a short hike along the coast line. You will not be disappointed. Visit Site.
Try out a new kind of art with Francesco by learning how to print natural items by turning them into a permanent keep safe. Frank, a charming gentleman from Sardinia, Italy, will guide you through this relaxing process and share many interesting stories and knowledge about the art of print making. You will head out into the bush surrounding his Margaret River studio and collect leaves, resin, and seeds all for use in the workshop. Cheese and wine provided! Kids welcome. Visit Site.
You don’t even need to get in the car for this amazing experience! Another tour with a huge difference and a chance to explore the real Margaret River with one of its passionate locals. Trust me when I tell you that you will visit places with Kellie that you would not normally get to see as a normal tourist. You have probably come to Margaret River to experience amazing food and wine and this tour will not let you down. Check their website for availability of the brunch and cocktail tours, plus their new pop-up food and wine events “under canvas” in some of the region’s most beautiful locations. Visit site.
There is so much to see and do with children in Margaret River. There are mazes to explore, bike trails to cycle, beaches to visit and parks to play in but one of my favourite things to do with my gorgeous 10-year-old is to spend the afternoon down at the Rivermouth. My daughter takes her boogie board and slides down the dunes into the river itself. The water is a beautiful depth to play safely and is just that little bit warmer than the ocean. Everybody wins! The kids play while the grown-ups drink wine! Visit site.
